Overview

This guide provides a comprehensive step-by-step process for booking a visa appointment and preparing the necessary documents.

Step 1: Request I-20 from College

Documents Required for I-20:

  1. Proof of Funds: ou must show proof of one year's expenses as listed on the official university website, which includes tuition and living costs.​

  2. Acceptable Forms of Funds: 

  • Fixed Deposit

  • Public Provident Fund (PPF) in Bank

  • Savings balance of a bank account

Sponsorship: You can have a maximum of three sponsors, with at least one sponsor being a parent.

Step 2: Fill Out DS-160 Form

 Website: https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx

 Important Information to Save:

  1. DS-160 Application Number: Example - Your Application ID is: AA009UNC8JK

  2. Access Requirements: To access your application later, you will need:

  • Your Application ID

The answer to the security question chosen on the DS-160 formSave the following information in a Word document:

  • Chosen security question: Mother’s Mother Name

  • Date of Birth

  • First 5 letters of your surname

Note: Fill in the information according to your I-20 and do not submit the form until all details are cross-checked.

Step 3: Other Details Required

  1. Passport

  2. I-20 Form

  3. Parents' Dates of Birth

  4. School Official’s Email ID and Phone Number: Obtain these from the university website. The School Official’s name can be found on your I-20.

  5. Two Contacts in India: Provide addresses, phone numbers, and email IDs of two people located in India (relatives are not allowed).

  6. Work Experience Details (if available): Provide phone numbers, email IDs, office addresses, and employment dates.

  7. Social Media Handles: Provide Instagram and Facebook profile names or handles.

Step 4: Book Visa Interview Date

  • Visa Fee: $185

Step 5: Pay SEVIS Fee

 SEVIS Fee: $350 (To be paid by credit card only)

Note: The SEVIS fee should be paid only after confirming the visa appointment.
